Dr. Besthorn's Professional Preparation

Dr. Besthorn holds a Ph.D. and MSW in Social Welfare from the University of Kansas and a M.Div. in theology from Grace Theological Seminary. He is former Assistant Professor of Social Work at Washburn University-Topeka, Kansas and Associate Professor of Social Work at the University of Northern Iowa-Cedar Falls, Iowa. Dr. Besthorn is currently Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at Wichita State University-Wichita, Kansas. Dr. Besthorn has taught across the curriculum at both graduate and undergraduate levels. His main focus is advanced micro and macro practice, human behavior and the social environment and social policy.

Dr. Besthorn brings experiences in the faith community, clinical practice, criminal justice, community advocacy and environmental activism. His research interests are in the integration of eco-spiritual and deep ecological thought to social work theory, practice and curriculum development.

He has presented many scholarly papers at national and international conferences of social work on the interface of radical environmental thought to social work education and practice. He has authored numerous scholarly works on issues of ecological awareness, eco-justice, deep ecology and eco-spiritual approaches to practice.
